Goodreads 2015 Reading Challenge – By Its Cover by Donna Leon

Five down, thirty left to complete my Goodreads Reading Challenge.

Commissario Brunetti of the Venice Police is back in Donna Leon’s 23rd book featuring the Venetian sleuth.

In this adventure Brunetti must solve a case involving a number of books damaged or stolen from a prestigious Venetian Library. Several rare books are missing and the main suspect is an American professor from Kansas University.

As always, Donna Leon weaves a wonderful mystery which reveals Leoninteresting tidbits about Venetian/Italian culture, psyche, politics, class, history and of course, food.

Each of the Brunetti novels, like Italian life itself, is written in a leisurely laid back manner revealing clues slowly and methodically. If you’re an impatient reader who wants the plot to move quickly towards a conclusion, then Donna Leon’s books will drive you crazy. Ms. Leon’s books must be read with patience and humor, but the good news is, that it’s all worth it in the end.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.

RATING: 4.5 out of 5 stars
